Red-Tinged River

I’m floating down life’s red-tinged river,
I hear haunting tones that make me shiver,
Shades of sorrow, shades of joy,
Some notes low, and some notes high.

I’m just flowing down, straw in a stream,
And though I know this is but a dream,
The scene is so familiar, it hurts inside,
I’m trapped deep down, deep inside my own mind.

From time to time, some bright star,
Lightens all that once was dark,
But through it all there are still shadows,
Some are deep, and some are shallow.
